Vintage Herschede Tambour Model H-808 with Westminster Chimes

Offered for your consideration is this lovely Vintage Herschede Westminster Chime Tambour Mantel Clock, Model H-808.  We believe it is circa 1970.

This Clock's movement was manufactured in Germany and bears the Herschede Stamp.  It is an eight day, three train, spring powered Westminster Movement which strikes the quarter hour Chimes on four tuned rods and counts the hours by striking a three rod chord.  The quarterly chimes can be silenced and it has a self-correcting chime mechanism.   It runs very quietly and its chimes are soft and mellow.  The movement is very solidly built with extensive use of hard steel leaf pinions.  It was just recently serviced and required no new bushings.  One of the front plate pivots must have been allowed to run dry.  It was located behind one of the chime control levers and was probably missed during lubrication. The arbor needed to be re-pivoted after all bushings were smoothed and polished. All of the other bearings were in excellent condition.  Pivots and bushings were polished as part of our periodic service. The Chime Train had to be fitted with a new high-quality steel Mainspring. The Time and Strike Mainsprings were found to be in good condition and they were cleaned, examined, lubricated and re-installed.  All functions of the movement, including its self-correction has been tested with excellent performance.

The case appears to be a very nicely finished brown mahogany veneer.  The case was cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner both inside and out.  Two coats of a high quality furniture paste wax were applied to restore and preserve the original finish.

All components of this clock are in excellent condition and it is ready to provide many years of beautifully resonant vintage Herschede mechanical time-keeping
